This buckle is made by combining hand polished Onyx and Lapis gems inlaid into 925 silver. The glow of the black Onyx answers the sea-deep blue and sparkling gold spots of the Lapis gem.

Zuni people’s craft is colorful and organic as an answer to the mineral austerity of the wild decor surrounding them. Their homeland is indeed located in today’s US South-West, a land of red steep cliffs and barren stretches only disturbed by a few lakes where Zuni gods reside.

Hence 6 colors combinaisons have been chosen to adorn those half rounded buckles and the associated frames and straps, whose designs refer to another episode of the region heritage. Hand-polished Onyx, Malachite, Turquoise and Lapis gems are carved into a mosaic of geometric semi-precious tiles. This unsettled symmetry, extended into engraved lines on the silver, highlights the stone’s Earth-drawn patterns and colors.
